ODSP - Rate Increase
Starting in November 2007, the maximum monthly (ODSP) rates
will increase by 2%
for the following:

Basic needs allowance for renters and owners.
Maximum shelter allowance for renters and owners.
Board and lodging rates.
Northern Allowance for recipients living north of the 50th
      parallel without year-round road access.
Personal Needs Allowances and monthly amounts for recipients
      in specified institutions and interval and transition homes for abused women
Guide Dog Benefit.

If you receive the
Back to School and Winter Clothing Allowances on behalf of a child under the age of 18, your July and October 2007 benefit cheques included a 2% increase to these
allowances.

ODSP - Changes to Your Reporting Responsibilities
As of September 2007 the government has changed when and how you report earnings and
changes to your personal situation.

Ontario Works -  Rate Increase
Starting in December 2007, the maximum monthly Ontario Works rates will increase by 2%
for the following:

Basic needs allowance for renters and owners.
Maximum shelter allowance for renters and owners.
Board and lodging rates.
Northern Allowance for recipients living north of the 50th parallel without year-round
road access.
Amounts for persons in nursing homes and interval and transition homes for abused
women.
Temporary care assistance.
Guide Dog Benefit.

If you receive the
Back to School and Winter Clothing Allowances on behalf of a child under the age of 18, your August and November 2007 benefit cheques included a 2% increase to

In addition, emergency shelter per diem rates will increase by 2%, effective December 2007.

Assistance for Children with Severe Disabilities (ACSD)…

The maximum amount of financial assistance under the Assistance for Children with Severe
Disabilities (ACSD) program, payable to a parent with a child with a severe disability, will also
increase by 2% to $420 per month, effective November 2007.

Just in Time for Holiday Shopping
As of October 1, 2007, expiry dates on pre-paid gift cards are banned
in Ontario. This means that your cards will continue to retain their full
value. In addition, gift cards must now spell out all terms and
conditions of their use and they cannot require fees to redeem them.

The new law does not apply to loyalty cards where you accumulate
points or to cards that fall under federal jurisdiction, such as prepaid
phone cards.

“Them and Us”, Ottawa’s Newest Singing Sensation
“Them and Us”, Ottawa’s newest singing group recently
competed in a Karaoke Idol Contest. The contest helped raise
money for the Community and Home Support Programme.  

Representing the artists “THEM” was Mary Boushel, lawyer, and
Michael Wilson, Area Manager of Ottawa Community Housing.
